Detectives fire up incinerators to destroy drugs, donate thousands to public schools

Brunswick County, NC (WECT) – Detectives are not only getting drugs off the streets, but they’re also getting rid of them forever.
Undercover detectives fired up the Drug Terminator on Friday. It’s an incinerator used to destroy drugs they confiscate from criminals.
Detectives told WECT.com that the machine eats up marijuana, cocaine, heroin and even prescription drugs. The Drug Terminator is a key element in making sure drugs don’t get back into our neighborhoods.

“We’re doing it in a controlled environment,” said an undercover agent. “We know it’s getting destroyed, we know it can’t get out into anyone’s hands anymore.”

The only other place known to dispose of these kinds of drugs is a landfill, but agents said they prefer the incinerator. “Using any means you run the risk of someone getting their hands on it and honestly there aren’t a lot of options open for law enforcement other than an incinerator or landfill.”

The drugs are also helping the local school system in Brunswick County. The Vice and Narcotics Unit had about $25,000 worth of cash from drug busts in the past year. We’re told that money was recently donated to the Brunswick County School for use in the public school system.
